Back online...finally

It took us 3 hours to turn the server into a running machine again, after replacing this damaged hard disc. However, we are back now.

Games are calculated right now, processing still in progress while writing this.

We will now discuss what to do with missed transfers, if they had their deadline during the last 3 hours.

Sorry for any trouble this might have caused...and if you see the guy that made the hard disc...tell him and best regards from me...

Coaches Corner - No.1 - Solana_Steve

You've been here since the very beginning of this game. How has RZA changed since the early days of September 2011 ?

I think the biggest change has just been the development of the economy. When I started, nobody had built out stadiums, so there wasn’t much money in the game. Now, everyone has max stadiums, but pretty small payrolls, so there is lots of money out there. Eventually, I think salaries will reign in available cash.

It’s changed quickly too. At the beginning of last season, I bought one of my best players for ~$45M and it was a really big purchase for the time. Now, he’d probably sell for two or three times that at least.

Which RZA teams/managers would you consider to be your main rivals ? ... and how intense is that rivalry ?

I have a pretty good divisional rivalry with Bellj (Heidelberg Hippos). I beat him in the playoffs last season, but then he beat me twice this season. Playoff game coming up this weekend!

Pete is also in the Galaxy 1.1 league and I seem to play him every season and in the playoffs too. So that’s a pretty big game too.

Of all the currently active NFL players, which 3 players do you rate the most highly ? And why ?

These aren’t necessarily the best players, but the ones that peaked my interest:

1. Wes Welker â€" this guy just is always open. I find him amazing.
2. RG3 â€" mark my words, Robert Griffin III will be incredible in the pros too!
3. Troy Polamalu â€" myself, not having the thickest head of hair, I’m a little envious of his mane. Great player too!

One of the RZA topics that seems to run and run .... for O-linemen, do you consider speed to be relevant ? Do you train speed ? ....... same for O-Linemen with Agility, do you consider it important ? Do you train it ?

Agility â€" I’ve trained it a little for O-linemen. I’m not sure how much it does. I’ve always been confused by the definition in the manual of agility and then how that resolves with the wording of Pass Blocker special trait.
Speed â€" I’ve never trained this for an O-linemen. I have considered it in picking positions on the O-line. Not sure it makes any difference though.

This one is primarily "tips for rookies" .... but think of it this way ... If you were to go Bot today, and start from fresh tomorrow .... having been playing this game for some time, which 3 things have you learnt that you would definitely do ? And which 3 things would you definitely not do ? (so, we might be talking .... definitely build the stadium fast, definitely not sell any Draftees .... lol ... it's up to you !)

Do’s
1. Build stadium ASAP.
2. Train PC as fast as possible.
3. Experiment with the playbook and see what works and what doesn’t.
4. Don’t be afraid to change players positions based to strength/speed caps.

Don’t
1. Don’t throw games.
2. Medium/Long passing â€" just be careful throwing longer passes with a newbie QB.
3. Don’t overspend on a single player transfer. As a newbie, you’re more than a single player away from being a good team. Build your stadium instead.

Not sure if I was a newbie team if I’d sell a talented draftee for big cash and build out my stadium immediately. It might be worth it.

Hardwarefailure, disc damage

We experienced a hardware damage, one hard disc fails to operate properly. Lucky enough we lost no data so far. We will have to change that disc. Unfortunately this means we need to shut down the server. Since we don't know yet the time Hetzner service will do that, we can just warn you in advance.

As soon as we know more details we will inform you.

Some of you might have noticed some changes already, we would like to introduce these changes to you by this post in an official way.

Video lessons

If you check the Help menu you will see a new chapter, so called Video lessons. The Video lessons will describe by screencasts how to do this and that, how the options are working, and what's important to know. Especially Rookie Managers will get a better introduction of important parts of the gameplay.

We are starting with two videos. Both are the result of a certain users effort, his name is Canonico. We thank you so much for your brilliant work - and hope you will do more of that stuff.


Training Optimizer

We added another function to the Training page, the Optimizer. This feature makes a suggestion what to train next. It is working on primary skills and physicals only - so don't expect too much out of it. The top priority is put to the Physical Condition - because Physical Condition is the top factor for your players performance on the field. The Optimizer takes care if a player is capped or not on Speed, Strength or Agility. Once PC, Speed and Strength are maxed out, the Optimizer tries to have a balanced training on the primary skills. If a player can use Carrying and Positioning as example, the Optimizer will balance the training between these two skills to avoid the creating of One-Skill-Wonders - to keep the salary as low as possible. You might activate the Optimizer as often as you like. Don't forget to store your settings. The Optimizer doesn't work in the background, it just acts once - at the moment you make the click. Smart managers don't just accept the suggestion m
ade by the Optimizer, much more they use it as basic set, and enhance it to have optimal training conditions for their players...

Changes in Draft Board handling

Today we implemented some usability changes in the Draft Board handling.

First of all, the general draft process remains the same!

Those changes are more a kind of 'cosmetic' improvements since the drag & drop feature behaves not correct in all circumstances (e.g. in older browsers).

What's staying the same?
- You still can sort your draft board using drag & drop as before by clicking on the small icon at the beginning of the draft player's row and dragging it around.
- You can put one player to the top or bottom of the list with the 'To the top' / 'To the bottom' icons.

What's new?
- Next to the 'To the top' / 'To the bottom' icons there are two new icons named 'one position up' / 'one position down'. With a left click on that button the player will be moved one single row up or down.
- If you left click on a player row that row will be selected (you'll see it graphically highlighted). When a row is selected you can do the following:
- - Move that entry up one row, pressing the cursor up key or the U key
- - Move that entry down one row, pressing the cursor down key or the D key
- - Move that entry to the top of the list pressing the Page Up key or the T key
- - Move that entry to the bottom of the list pressing the Page Down key or the B key
- - Left-clicking the selected row again will uns e l e c t it. Alternatively you can press the Escape key to uns e l e c t the selected row
- There is a new text field per row displaying the current position on the list. Additionally you can change the number in that text field to any number you want ( between 1 and 96 - reflecting the position on the list). If you have changed the number in the text field you will have to press the Enter key to apply the change. If you just leave the input field the old value will be restored and nothing happens (in cases you accidentally change a number you din't want to).

We started this salute with a famous line from the Declaration of Independence, which was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. With that, the original 13 colonies announced their separation from Great Britain. And since then the United States of America celebrates this day as its birthday. In the U.S., this day is celebrated with parades, picnics, sporting events, barbecues and fireworks.

It is great that many former foes have become friends and allies. We hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the day, and we wish everyone the very best around the world.
